A recent viral TikTok by mother-daughter duo Tesa and Alana (@tesalana7777) has stirred up a surprising conversation about the size of the iconic rolls served at Texas Roadhouse, a well-known American steakhouse chain. In their video, Tesa pointed out how her two dozen rolls, packed into just two styrofoam containers, appeared unusually small.
“OK, so I was wondering how I got two whole dozen rolls, and they only fit in two boxes,” Tesa says, showcasing the takeout containers. She opens one to reveal the tightly packed rolls and questions the size. Holding her finger next to a roll, she says, “Look at how little these are. Look, that’s my finger!” The comparison reveals that the rolls are only about half the size of her finger.
TikTok Viewers Weigh In
The video, which has garnered over 36,000 views, sparked a flood of comments from TikTok users who also noticed the change. Some viewers echoed Tesa’s surprise, remarking that they had observed the rolls shrinking on their own recent visits to Texas Roadhouse.
“I noticed that last week, like damn, now I don’t want them,” one user commented. Another said, “I noticed that the last time I went there.”
However, the debate didn’t stop there. Many users began speculating on the reasons behind the possible size reduction. One user theorized, “When everybody put them on the map and kept talking about how good they are, of course, they had to make them smaller.” Another echoed, “When everyone started talking about it, just like everything else.”
Theories on Shrinking Rolls
While many were quick to attribute the shrinkage to the restaurant’s rising popularity, not everyone was convinced. Several former Texas Roadhouse employees chimed in with their own explanations.
One user, claiming to have management experience at Texas Roadhouse, suggested that the rolls “didn’t proof correctly,” referring to the dough-rising process. Another ex-employee stated, “I worked there back in 2007; they’ve always been that size.”
Interestingly, some users pointed to the restaurant’s recent viral popularity as a possible reason for the attention on the rolls. Texas Roadhouse has gained a lot of social media buzz for its Family Meal, a takeout-only deal that includes an entrée, two large sides, a dozen rolls, a salad, and dipping sauces for $45. Many TikTokers, including Nate and Sarah (@nateandsaraheats), reviewed the meal, calling it a “take-home steak meal you can’t beat.”
Roll Size Debate Continues
With Texas Roadhouse being a viral sensation on TikTok for various reasons, the roll size debate adds to the buzz surrounding the chain. While some believe that the increased popularity of Texas Roadhouse may have impacted the size of their beloved rolls, others insist that this is simply a case of dough preparation issues or misperception.
As of now, Texas Roadhouse has not publicly commented on the matter. Whether the rolls are indeed smaller or if they’ve always been this size remains a topic of heated debate among diners. One thing is certain: TikTokers are paying close attention to their takeout orders, and Texas Roadhouse’s famous rolls are now under the spotlight in an entirely new way.
